Twice a year, the Kelsey family perform a cowboy labor that is almost extinct—they move their one hundred and twenty horses without trucks. Cradled in a valley of the Rocky Mountains, the Kelseys' 9 Quarter Circle Ranch is frigid in winter, so each fall, the herd must be moved to a milder pasture at a lower elevation. Every June, they are driven back up. In “9QC,” Director Kristopher Rey-Talley follows third-generation dude rancher Kameron Kelsey on that summer “Round Up,” a three day-journey through the stunning terrain of Big Sky Country. share this story If you liked this story consider purchasing Victory Journal 12 where it was first printed.
